Why work with me

Because I have spent twenty years on systems that were not allowed to be wrong, and I still write code.

Portrait of Denis Pushkarev

I started at Rambler in 2000, on an email service with two million users, then spent eleven years at the Bank of Russia building payment transfer systems and secure banking applications, leading a forty-person engineering unit. That is where I learned that a successful response is not the whole story. What matters is who owns the state, when an operation becomes final, and what a restarted process does with unfinished work.

From 2015 I worked on distributed platforms across Europe: a learning platform with eight million users, a CQRS commerce system in Denmark, data pipelines processing tens of thousands of accounts a day, and architecture consulting for Erlang Solutions, Netguru and McGraw Hill.

Since 2023 I have been in Dubai, first as Senior System Architect and now as Department Director at a gaming technology company, responsible for around forty engineers and coordinating the work of a hundred more across product, platform and vendor teams. In that time our platforms went from 20K to 100K+ concurrent players per game, and time-to-market dropped from two months to two weeks.

How I work

Correctness before cleverness

A system that is fast and occasionally wrong is slower than one that is right. Invariants first, then performance.

Measure, then scale

Bottlenecks are found, not guessed. Every capacity decision is backed by a number we can reproduce.

Modernize incrementally

Big-bang rewrites break behavior nobody documented. Adapters, explicit routing and tested boundaries keep the lights on.

Leave the team stronger

Standards, reviews and mentoring for leads. The architecture should outlive my engagement.
